  • Thanks! Yeah I don’t plan to get rid of my Switch either. Mario Kart 8 and World are different enough that I think I will keep playing both. But I still play Mario Kart 64 too, so maybe I’m not a good example for this kind of thing!

Age of Calamity has so much content, I don’t even know how far I am from 100% 😅 Every time I complete a thing, a few more show up on the map. I finished the main story and did plenty of the smaller quests, but I still have so many to go. And I’m at almost 40 hours in this new save file.

  • how ridiculously bad the d-pad is on that thing

I’m still butthurt by this 😂 The Switch 1 Pro Controller wasn’t cheap either. And how that d-pad passed QA and testing is beyond me. Nintendo invented and perfected the d-pad in the 1980’s, and they go out and make this joke of a d-pad and sell it at a premium price.

I’m hoping there’ll be an update for the older 8bitdo controllers soon. I have an SN30 Pro and a Pro 2. Once it comes out, we’ll hopefully have it posted in this community.

  • Switch 2 is here! Well, not mine, but in general. Should be getting mine soon though. How many of you have gotten it already? And how are you liking it so far?

I got it on Thursday, first time ever I get a new Nintendo console on release date! I’m really enjoying it! I only bought Mario Kart World for Switch 2. I haven’t tried the new stuff for the Zelda games, because I know once I do that’s all I’ll be playing for weeks. But I will go through some of my backlog, see if I notice any improvements on different games. I also want to get Cyberpunk at some point, it’s just with these prices, I need to really think before getting a new game…

Mario Kart World is amazing. I still haven’t gotten used to it, but I’ve finished all the cups in Grand Prix. It’s cool because it’s more Mario Kart, but also I feel like I’ll still keep playing Mario Kart 8 forever. Makes sense Monolith helped out. I know they mentioned it before, but experiencing is a whole thing, they actually built an open world Mario Kart! I’ve been enjoying all the little references and easter eggs. It’ll be a blast to play this with friends!

Finished Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the main story at least. There’s a lot of content on this game, and I played a bit of the post-game stuff. I think I might keep going to get the final ending. In regards to performance with Switch 2, there is an issue with loading screens on 1, they take forever. This improves on Switch 2, but the main improvement I noticed was in the stages where you get to play with the Divine Beasts. It feels like a completely different experience, it runs much smoother.

I am definitely getting the new Hyrule Warriors on Switch 2. They really work on the story on these games (way more than Nintendo do). So if you’re interested in the story from Zelda games, I definitely recommend Age of Calamity. I hope they fix some of the technical issues for the new one though. It’s not about hardware limitations as much as issues with the camera in some parts. I feel like the camera should get further away in some circumstances, instead it kind of gets locked between the enemy and a wall and you can’t see anything, neither your character nor what’s happening. Also I hope they moke more different enemies. I don’t know how many Moblins I defeated, but it got boring 😅

  • I’m the same, the Switch is the generation where I got the most imported games ever. Just because there was no physical version in my region (looking at you Capcom 👀). I also reluctanctly buy from Limited Run Games and other “limited” options which cash on fear of missin out. But I’d always rather have a physical game I can play in 10 years like I do with my consoles from 30 years ago.

The key cards is definitely stupid and I hope it fails miserably and goes away. But I doubt that’ll be the case. The good thing is Nintendo -at least for now- will keep their first party releases physical.

  • Yeah, I think if you have a PS5, it only makes sense if you want to play first party Nintendo games. I’ve considered getting a PS5 several times, third party games will always run better there. I bought Mortal Kombat 11 for Switch and it runs like crap, just that experience made me think more of getting a PS5! I have a decent laptop I inherited, which runs games pretty well (not a high level last gen thing, but decent enough). I play some games there, but (maybe because I work with computers) I prefer gaming on the couch/elsewhere.

No ethical consumption under capitalism and all that. But escapism with videogames is fun and helps one cope with the state of the world for a little while.

  • I pre-ordered one, yes, in theory it’ll be delivered today. I think Nintendo got a bit arrogant with the success of Switch 1, so they’ve taken some anti-consumer practices a bit far. I’m not a fan of Game Key Cards, I won’t be buying any, and the rest of the negative stuff that’s been discussed to boredom.

But I’ve enjoyed my Switch a lot in these past years. The Switch 2 is a more powerful version of the same. I’m looking forward to playing new Mario Kart, Zelda games with improvements, Metroid Prime 4, and lots of other stuff. I don’t think I’ll abandon my Switch just yet, and I’ll keep buying physical games on there when it makes sense over Switch 2. But I am excited.

Personally it’s also the first time I’m getting a new Nintendo system on launch date, which is exciting as a fan since the NES era.

  • Like last week, I’m playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. I don’t know how far into the story I am, but…

    spoiler

    The calamity has already appeared.

I’ve been doing the shorter missions at times, like sit down for 15 minutes and do a few of those and trying to get more stuff. It’s hard not to always play with Link, but I’ve had fun with other characters too. And if you don’t level them up, then Link is overpowered in comparison. Has anyone else played the DLC? It looks cool, but I wonder if it’s worth it? The gameplay is fun, but the story caught me as this is a BotW prequel. I’m thinking of going back to BotW, then I can play the enhanced version when I get a Switch 2 and notice the improvements much better, since I haven’t played in so long now.
