  • If you have space for like a bedside table, or a coffee table, or even a table table, you have space for a small chest freezer. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in the kitchen.

Looks like the average small ones are only about 3.5 cubic feet. I’ve rarely seen 1.2 cubic feet ones as well.

That said, if all you have is one of those small kitchenettes with barely enough space for a microwave, you’re kind of kneecapped in terms of food prep in other ways as well.

  • Wait, was it confirmed sold? The news post on Nexus fron this morning indicated that the existing head admin and CEO (of 24 years) was just stepping back (and not even away entirely), and had already put the year+ in of identifying two successors from his existing team.

I didn’t see anything regarding a sale, and the existing admin said quite a bit about taking this seriously from a standpoint of what’s best for mod makers and users and not best for business profits.

Edit: I’m not seeing any company name given because as far as I can tell, it wasn’t sold. It’s the same company, same employees, the person at the tip top is just shifting.

And since when is “comicbook dot com” a source for game modding news? Unless someone can show me something from a more direct or reputable source, I think this is just someone running with the most click bait interpretation of the nexusmods post.

Edit x2: Dormedas’s resetera link has some convincing investigation that the two people named as taking over the reigns may work for a company that provides esports training, and also consulting services for user generated content focused companies.

  • I’m already seeing a permutation of this at my workplace with Microsoft’s low/no code automation frameworks. Power Platform I believe is the name. Also seeing it with some other proprietary automation tools.

While I respect the motivation of these business folks to try and automate their processes, it’s distressing watching these people slap together something of equivalent quality to what I’d expect from freshman in an intro to programming course (I’ve been an assistant for some of those classes, it’s not pretty) and then try and balance all sorts of business critical stuff on top of their mess.

What is extra frustrating is that we already have in-house software devs for this sort of stuff. They’re already understaffed, but this motivation for automation could be a perfect opportunity to right-size that team, build a proper “tech project management” group, and really start to lean hard into making the best use of all these tools. Instead, a few enterprising project managers took a single continuing education course for some proprietary automation software and somehow got the office politics clout to spin it into an entire department based around their little pet system.

Meanwhile I’m sitting here in Systems Admin and Enterprise Architecture land watching these half assed “solutions” eating absurd amounts of resources to do shit that could be accomplished with a small DB and maybe 1k lines of code.

No, you cannot have a VM with a fucking 1TB drive. We’ve seen the files that go into and out of your current systems and if you found some way to bloat those into anywhere close to 1TB then something is seriously wrong.

PowerBI especially, they keep sending all their queries to the first gateway server we built instead of spreading them over the multiple ones we have. The end up maxing out the RAM and bringing the primary gateway down. Now, it should automatically offload new queries to the other gateways when one gets full, but queries are handled by batch, so if one batch is too big it can’t split that batch over multiple gateway servers. We’ve reached the point where we can’t just add more resources to the VM, they need to split shit up better.

So I guess all this is to say that it’s already happening to a limited degree. I don’t enjoy being a gatekeeper, but so many fucking people need so much more training before they start trying to automate shit, and the ever increasing marketing of “you don’t need to have a single coherent thought in your head to become a process efficiency master” is fucking poison.

What’s the saying? Rather have a lazy smart person than an industrious idiot?

  • Protip: Save up, buy a dedicated freezer. Like a “redneck hunter’s garage” style one. Nothing fancy, just a white box with a dial on the front for how cold you want it. Cheaper than the fancy flashy fridge freezer combos, and much more usable space (although you have to stack stuff inside). A lot cheaper than you’d expect. They also come in a variety of sizes, from small to “I need space for three bodies”.

  • So this is your project? Judging from your username here and the test messages shown in your screenshot here and on the Github. Nemesis.

Brand new lemmy account with only this post on it.

And the entire Github codebase is made up of a single commit of all the files 2 hours ago as of the time I’m commenting.

As I’ve said before with similar posts from (I believe) other users/coders: just be up front about if something you’re posting was your weekend project or just something to fill out a portfolio.

  • And you haven’t responded to any of what I wrote, in order to keep pushing the racism angle. You certainly aren’t doing yourself any favors.

If you can’t see how posting a thread asking people what they do and what they make could be controversial (even without the potential race angle or the “I make a shit ton of money” angle), you must be very insulated from the world.

Job markets are crap almost universally, definitely in the US and from what I can gather also in Europe. Average yearly wage for the US was significantly less than a third of what you say you make last I checked. Six figures is a major career goal for most people. Just getting above $100k a year is seen as a pretty big accomplishment. And you’re going to strut in claiming 3.5x that and just go “I see no way how this could be construed as anything but an attempt at conversation”?

To be fair, I’ve personally known people like you in real life. College friend who was the son of a doctor with his own practice, inviting us out to dinner at a place that “wasn’t too expensive”. At the time (2010), $25 a plate was expensive for working adults, let alone college students.

  • There are a lot of new accounts that post weird questions like this to asklemmy, seemingly trying to bait out strong reactions by including some sort of “twist”.

Relationship questions, but surprise, it’s an islamic marriage with multiple wives!

Am I the asshole type question about raising children, but surprise, a buried lede that is right on the edge of “is this person abusing their kid, or just a hardass”?

Is this a reasonable to expect from my spouse, but surprise, it’s an arranged marriage!

Most of these posts are deleted within 24 hours, strongly suggesting that there is someone using sockpuppet accounts to bait out engagement. Fuck if I have any clue why. There is a distinct pattern that your post falls into.

I appreciate that the mods are finally doing something about it, just making a comment to remind people to excercise common sense.

Lemmy has a bit of a schism with some extreme leftist groups practically worshipping the Russian and Chinese government. So your inclusion of it makes this post appear to be another one of those “slightly engaging, but surprise thing that probably shouldn’t be contreversial but sure will be!” posts.

And even assuming good faith, this is just a humblebrag thread. “Look at how much I make!”

  • Enjoy while you can.

Don’t chase weapon upgrades and crafting research too hard. The minor stat upgrades don’t really effect much for the stupid amount of grinding required to get the exact right materials needed.

I found that the novelty of the game wore off pretty quick after I started finding what initially felt like handcrafted points of interest repeating for the third time. Apparently there’s a mod that tweaks the RNG to significantly reduce how often things repeat, because it’s really rough out of the box.
