As a sysadmin I’ll say systemd is far better. No contest.

timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•AOSP isn't dead, but Google just landed a huge blow to custom ROM developersEnglish8·6 days agoI really want to give furios phone a shot. It’s apparently close to supporting my carrier.
That and a sailfish phone. The community one though didn’t support my carrier (think it’s mainly EU specced only.)
What I find missing most of the time though is any esim support. Makes me wonder if the hardware one that you can program an esim on works.
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Linux@programming.dev•GNOME introducing stronger dependencies on systemdEnglish41·7 days agoAnyone developing desktop for BSD will likely just gravitate to xfce or similar I bet. I honestly am not sure what ghostbsd or midnight or others package by default now.
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Linux@programming.dev•GNOME introducing stronger dependencies on systemdEnglish251·8 days agoThis all seems to make sense. Ditching legacy and rarely used code that next to no one uses (and some that was temporary to begin with.)
Nothing stopping anyone else from creating things to handle gnome without systemd but also making the workload easier and one might argue more secure.
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Vim is built differentEnglish1·9 days agoI need to give this a go again. Tried it a while back but wasn’t impressed enough to keep it. Been using pulsar since which has mostly been nice.
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Jellyfin 10.11 RC1 ReleasedEnglish472·9 days agoI’ll be honest, Im not sure why theyre not releasing this as 11.x.
This seems to be a major update. From what I can tell there are API changes, plugins might not work, your entire db is converted to another format, etc.
I’m excited for it and thankful for all the work- just seems so big that it should be tagged 11.0.0
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Vim is built differentEnglish10·9 days agoI mean, if youre continually updating files on remote take the time to learn vim. My God it’s a million times more efficient. Even using the keybindings in an ide makes sense.
That and Im not aware that rhel distros at all have nano built in. Nothing on a random rocky 9 box I randomly sshed into just now.
timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Recent commits suggest Signal is preparing a paid subscription for backups.English16·14 days agoExcellent news honestly. Trying to get people to switch to something encrypted and the one thing I’ve thought of is that I want to know it can continue indefinitely. Everything else in life costs money- we just never think of it computer wise because we pay with our data and privacy.
This can join threema with a solid revenue stream. I back mine up locally but would pay for this anyhow.

Especially a big deal considering the current coalition is very weak and can barely agree on legislation anyhow.

timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.worksto Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommendations for a FOSS Cross-Platform Note-Taking ApplicationEnglish0·2 years agoBiggest issue with Joplin is that it doesn’t store the actual markdown in files that I can see. You’re basically screwed if you ever want to move to a different product.
Imagine being this vitriolic in response to someone’s personal anecdote.
The person you responded to said they did find a sense of community like the study describes. Nowhere in there did they argue that anyone should be forced to go back to an office nor even that an office spot be made available to people.
