  • I saw one of your alts then banned

    Huh? What alt? Banned where?

But I’ll probably just open a post on !askandroid@lemdro.id to see what people over there think.

And this is what I’m talking about when I talk about ego. The Ask Android community is there to enable people to ask questions and find answers, you don’t post there and yet you want to close it for your own vanity.

All comments you see mentioning “every time I look for a community on Lemmy to ask a question, it’s a ghost town”.

So let it be a ghost town. Again, there’s many good communities that aren’t the biggest on Lemmy and they’re a success. What makes them a success, the fact that people go back and enjoy them.

Most users just go for the community with the higher number of subs / MAU.

Those are literally all of the users I’m trying to avoid. My great Lemmy experience relies on me not having to come across those people.

This is the main reason why !privacy@lemmy.ml and !linux@lemmy.ml are still the largest communities by far while !privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com and !linux@programming.dev exist.

It’s just called traction. There was never a compelling reason to move. It’s not like football which got locked so everyone was forced to move.

If we want decentralization, the non-LW/ml communities have to be better, otherwise network effect just brings people there naturally.

I want Lemmy. I don’t want Blaze’s Lemmy or my Lemmy, I just wanna Lemmy. Not everything needs you or my fingerprints on it.

If you prefer not to interfere with that, that’s okay, but I’m not sure why criticizing people who try to (and it’s not only me, you see other people like @threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works doing a great job consolidating inactive communities: https://lemmy.zip/post/40774008) helps with decentralization.

Because this isn’t coming from a good place.

If you were trying to consolidate android@lw and android@lemdroid and android@whatever I could see where you’re coming from, but you’re literally just being a community Nazi. I can’t support that.

But we’re both part of that community. Me suggesting something to you isn’t something that happens in a vacuum, it’s two regular poster of the community/instance who discuss where posts are made.

The posts are fine where they are. If I want to discuss features/news I go to android, if I have a question, I go to askandroid

The first prerequisite to have a good time is to have people to interact with.

The prerequisite is having some integrity.

  • Then LW will keep being the centralized instance with the vast majority of communities.

So it’s Lemdroid’s responsibility to pander?

People probably love Android too, but don’t want to post to a community where there are 7 post in a month, and with 87 monthly active users compared to !android@lemmy.world which has 1590 MAU (!android@lemdro.id has 3k, but we already know questions aren’t allowed there)

Says who? If people want to post to LW or anywhere else, they will. I don’t post to !selfhosted@lemmy.world because I don’t like the moderation policy, none of the other self hosted communities across Lemmy are as active. Despite that, I still don’t post. Because the community isn’t a good fit for me.

I asked @Astrealix@lemmy.world to move @gunners@lemmy.world to another instance and he didn’t wanna. Despite my strong feelings about decentralisation, I stuck there because community is more important.

I like the admin team and the community of Lemdroid. Whether they’re tiny or there’s more popular elsewhere. I’m not chasing numbers of trying to act like ActivityPub Jesus, first and foremost is cultivating my good time without letting my ego get in the way.

  • I’m surprised, as I know you’re against centralization of large instances, but this would mean to basically tell people to go to Lemmy.world to have a general Android community.

If people don’t like the way Lemdroid is run, LW is there or any other instance is there and available.

Not sure what you mean. We both post on !football@sopuli.xyz. Is using a general football community “artificially fluffing”, compared to using !premierleague@instance, !seriea@instance, !bundesliga@instance ?

I don’t post in football to create content or make it look busy, I post there because I love football.
