  • The only movie that legit made me cry was Seven Pounds with Will Smith. I only saw it once, and I tried real goddamn hard to suppress the tears, but a few leaked out. Luckily, none of the people I watched it with noticed, so my masculinity remained in-tact.

I’m asking as I’m trying to understand empathy and whether it’s normal to get so invested in fake characters,

Fuck yeah it is. It’s a beautiful thing to be so moved by something that it brings you to tears (especially art). It’s what makes us human: we’re not just mindless beasts trying to eat and fuck, we’re experiencing life to its fullest.

  • I think it went like this:

    • Linux is highly customizable
    • customizing or “ricing” your Linux machine became a hobby
    • weebs got into the hobby, infesting the space with anime waifus and other degenerate cartoons
    • some time during the weeb infestation, thigh high socks became a recurring theme
    • gay/trans programmers sarcastically posted themselves in thigh high socks
    • gay/trans programmers who didn’t get the sarcasm unironically adopted thigh high socks
    • Rust was invented

So you see, it’s just another example of the kind of tragedies that can befall society when sarcasm isn’t clearly labeled on the internet.

  • Valve won. Maybe it’s lucky timing, or maybe Gabe is actually a genius, but it’s only going to get worse for Windows as there is no way in hell Microsoft shifts resources from AI projects to make Windows better for PC gaming. Recently, Capcom announced that their PC gaming sales surpassed their console sales, and I don’t think it’s likely we’ll see that trend changing, and it’s also likely other publishers will make similar announcements soon (although idk if they count SteamOS as a console). The Switch 2 is coming out soon, but people already say it’s too expensive, and there are controversies surrounding some of their product decisions.

Will this bring about the era of the Linux desktop? Idk, but the era of the Linux gaming PC is inevitable now.

  • Lots of good suggestions in this thread already, but I just want to bring up another option that may be more friendly for your budget: piracy. Do your research and try to identify a ship containing what you want that needs to pass near a pirate hotspot, then hire a group of freelancers (or use a broker) to take the prize. You’ll need to set up the logistics in advance, and make sure you take into account the other goods on the ship when negotiating terms. Don’t pay anything up front, as that’s a common scam. These pirate groups can secure their own weapons and boats, so find another group if they start trying to get you to fund that.

You’ll also need to organize transportation of the goods once you have the ship. Unloading a container from one of those big boats isn’t easy, especially if the one you want is at the bottom of a stack. Your best bet is to find a corrupt harbor master and bribe him. Without that, it could take weeks or months to unload your wax.

After that comes transportation, which may involve smuggling the goods across a border, forging paperwork, etc. That’s its own can of worms, but you’ll need to research the specifics based on your actual requirements.
