Psythik@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of this monthEnglish2·2 days agoI was there! Started on Digg after Kevin Rose mentioned it on The Screensavers (TechTV), joined reddit shorty after.
2006-2009 was peak reddit. Then after digg’s suicide, it was the beginning of the end.
And now he’s is trying to bring it back. I wish him the best of luck. Don’t fuck it up this time, Kevin.

I remember the early days of reddit, when we would make fun of the kids over at /r/SummerReddit every June. But then those kids grew up, took over the website, and now /r/SummerReddit is all of reddit.

Ha! FWIW I didn’t find out what it did until well into adulthood, long after my parents got rid of that PC.
As kids, my siblings and I would push it for fun, having no idea what it did (other than make the number on the 7 segment display change). Never even noticed a difference but then again I was 6 when we got that computer.
Maybe; did Packard Bell produce upright PC cases in the early 90s? I thought they only did horizontal cases but I was like 6 back then so I’m just going by what my mom said to me.
Don’t remember the brand but it was a Win 3.1 machine from Sears. It had a turbo button.

Psythik@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Meta shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to explore adding Bitcoin to the company's treasury, with less than 1% voting in favor of the measureEnglish5·4 days agoSeriously, I do not have faith in USD anymore. What’s left of my paycheck after bills all goes to BTC, and I sell what I need on demand to cover day to day costs. Been doing this since 2019 and it has paid off handsomely.

Y’all should have bought BTC when the price was hovering around $19K about 3 years ago. I told you the price was going to go up, but no one listened. Now it’s at $105K, I’m $60k richer, and y’all are still whining and complaining that it’s a “scam”.
Hate to break it to you, but bitcoin isn’t to crash and burn anytime soon. It’s still early; buy in now or regret it for the rest of your life.
Psythik@lemm.eeto memes@lemmy.world•Its like seeing those high-tech pop machines for the first time1·4 days agoSeems to me that you got an early or cheaper HDR display, then. To me the difference is night and day.
FWIW, HDR does its best work if you have a display that can do true blacks. If you don’t have an OLED, mini LED, or full array, you’re going to have a hard time noticing the difference, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. HDR works best in either extremely dark or bright scenes, so having a display with a near infinite contrast ratio is important.
Here’s a hint for any display: Look at some HDR clouds while you toggle HDR on and off. You’ll definitely notice the difference there. Also check the teals. It’s less obvious but SDR displays can’t do a proper teal.

I feel like a fatass because I never need to measure spaghetti. One box is two servings.
