  • I use F-Droid on Android and I don’t use Google Play at all. I’m really glad laws exist that prevent monopolization and I’m really glad the OS is open source so that if it were to ever change I will just use a different fork.

There’s no sign up or payment info required.

It works great for me. I don’t pay for any apps nor have I ever nor will I, but if I did, I would PayPal/Ko-Fi/Shopify/Patreon the money to the Dev without any further sign up required.

    1. It’s your SO or kid accessing it and they don’t know any better.

Teach them or dont give them devices or admin privs on them. If all else fails they are free to use the apple app store where apple will now be exposed to the broader market and set the fees accordingly.

    1. You just bought something (an appliance, a vehicle, an FPV drone, whatever) and it requires you to use an app, and that app is an exclusive on the shadiest App Store possible.

I would never buy such junk that it requires an app. Your decisions are your own.

hope you like signing up with all your personal data and credit card information on app stores that make Apple look like saints, because that’s where this is headed, and sadly you’ll drag me with you.

Isn’t that also a problem with Apple? And any specific app? In any case I’ve never signed up with any app store nor am I going to.

Because again this hypothetical thing you bought might be a family member buying it, so it won’t even be up to you at that point.

I mean, it’s their device, why do you care? You can educate them but you can’t make the right choices for them nor can I for you.

The way to avoid it is to get rid of app stores completely, and have users download and install apps one by one. Like that’s going to happen.

Do you mean like the way everyone installs programs on Windows and has for the last two and a half decades?

  • Average height where I am in the UK is 5’9" for men (175cm). I’m not dating in Asia so the global averages aren’t really relevant.

Don’t feel insecure though, it’s just each to their own, and I hope you find someone awesome who loves you and is a good fit! (if you haven’t already of course!)

I’m quite lucky because I found a girlfriend who is the same height as me. We’re a really good fit together physically and much more importantly we’re absolute soulmates, and in the end that’s what matters.

And for what it’s worth, before I met my gf when I was younger, I still went on a date with a trans bi dude who was like 5’3" or 5’6" or something because I found him super interesting. Didn’t work out, and it was actually me getting turned down, so there’s that, I didn’t discard him as a choice just because of his height nor even the potential physical incompatibilities.

I also once set up a date with a self-proclaimed “incel” Chinese immigrant who was around the 150-160cm mark, but he got paranoid and thought it was a scam because I listed the height req on my profile, and I was really busy and not responding much because I was trying to nail down an internship at the same time 🤣

One time , I went on a date with a cishet dude who said he was 6’0", so I took the occasion to wear my heels, turns out dude lied and just looked like my son the entire time, he also had a bit of a babyface, and it didn’t help he was a software engineer, and I was unemployed, but I talked circles around him in terms of computer stuff when I started infodumping about hackintoshing old vaio laptops over dinner.

Never spoke to him after that and neither did he to me lol, awkward all around lmao

  • I mean, 5’7" is quite short.

Not that I would wish it on anyone to be rejected because of their height, but we’re all entitled to our sexual preferences, without the burden of justification. And this one seems incredibly reasonable, unless maybe you’re in Asia where 5’7" is like top 1 percentile?

I would never date any man or woman below 5’10" because I prefer my partner to be taller than me. I generally consider anything less than 5’8" to be very short, and anyone over 6’0" to be tall.

  • No it actually is that.

Depression is not the same as Feeling depressed/ Feeling down. Depression is like a prolonged MDMA hangover (also caused by neurotransmitter depletion, namely serotonin).

I’ve never had depression or anything like that but as an ADHDer I feel intense solidarity with folks who have a medical condition caused by chemical imbalance that is not taken seriously because randoms without said condition muddy the waters by using it as a soapbox to talk about some bullshit societal/cultural thing they’re mad about at this moment.

  • Most of them have a more or less coherent plot but an unrealistic premise.

Like I’m escaping my home from a tornado or massive storm of some sort, but such things don’t happen where I live, etc.

There’s also a kind of short “context memory”, like a generative LLM, where past a certain point some information is lost, the previous plot will be forgotten and a now it’s a completely new genre, sorta like From Dusk Till Dawn.

Often more-or-less magic will intervene in science fiction scenarios and vice versa, like star wars invading star trek or bsg type stuff, or an apocalyptic movie will become a sort of bizarre nature documentary narrated by Steve Irwin and David Attenborough from the afterlife in their respective passionate and dispassionate tones about what became of humanity after the end (kinda wish it was Ron Perlman instead), or F&F style action setpiece where I’m running from falling nukes will become a 10 Cloverfield Lane or The Thing type “social trust” thriller with sketchy characters and an escalating threat.

Often they’re “played” by either actual actors, game characters or people I knew in high school.
