I think you misunderstood, ada was suggesting using a different server than lemmy.world in order to spread out the load better
some examples:
They’re all still Lemmy, just different access points. If you want the “Old” UI, some have it built in like https://old.lemmy.ca/ and https://old.lemmy.zip/
I mean it’s not amazing bitrate but it’s better than IGN’s videos
update for the IDM community, we now have !idm@lemmy.zip
than it is growing right now
it’s not really growing though, if you look at MAU it’s shrinking
we had a big bump at the end of March but we’ve been shrinking since then
I think the software should start hiding/marking them in some way
I don’t expect they will all be deleted, and I don’t even think it would be good to delete them because there could be a chance they start getting activity
Yes you’ll have to create a new account somewhere else, so that you can import settings
a comment tree with the same confusion as you (and me lol) https://lemm.ee/comment/20911153
yep, if you’re a lemm.ee user then your Export button will be here: https://lemm.ee/settings
the bottom of the right column
Mastodon handles it pretty decently where it automatically gets your followers to follow your new account, there’s no reason why communities/groups couldn’t do the same thing
The key reason is that we just don’t have enough people on the admin team to keep the place running. Most of the admin team has stepped down, mostly due to burnout, and finding replacements hasn’t worked out.
Lemmy probably needs support for different levels of permissions, like Discord has, and PieFed has this too (but I don’t think it’s as in-depth as Discord yet)
I just tried and PieFed cannot access PixelFed posts. Mbin can do it.
Personally I don’t mind the separation between some platforms, I’m fine with having 2 accounts. The UX is designed to work with the style of content anyways. But I know a lot of people want everything to work with everything.
only in theory
Pixelfed doesn’t use groups/communities, so Lemmy cannot access their content since Lemmy can’t follow users
(maybe you were thinking of PieFed? that’s a different platform with a similar name lol)
Separate things, just the same admin I guess. You can follow the same communities from either one.
On Mastodon, follow the account for this community, just Mastodon uses @ instead of ! so it’s
@fediverse@lemmy.world
and you can post to the community by mentioning itYou can paste URLs of Lemmy posts/comments into the search bar of Mastodon to pull it up. Just make sure you use the real URL and not a mirror, so you need to get the URL from Lemmy’s Fediverse icon
it has on every post/comment
