There are pretty great applications in medicine. AI is an umbrella term that includes working with LLMs, image processing, pattern recognition and other stuff. There are fields where AI is a blessing. The problem is, as JohnSmith mentioned, it’s the “solar battery” of the current day. At one point they had to make and/or advertise everything with solar batteries, even stuff that was better off with… batteries. Or the good ol’ plug. Hopefully, it will settle down in a few year’s time and they will focus on areas where it is more successful. They just need to find out which areas those are.

Nah mate, it was already in existence by last Tuesday afternoon and there is no way for you to disprove it.
God: Created the universe, able to make huge ass stars behave the way God wants. Also God: unable to stop butt sex.
For the future viewers
I wonder if it’s in the saliva.
I would totally understand if it was in a place where your kids can take a walk or public transport to school or other places on their own. I would also want them to have means to call you.
EDIT: my bad, I ignored the ‘smart’ bit there. I just meant any phone.
AFAIK raccoons are already manageable pets up until they hit puberty. Then they get batshit crazy and feral, and it’s best to let them go, so all in all it’s not worth it. However, while I’m not sure it’s a perfect analogy, but there was a domestication experiment spanning over several decades with foxes, and it’s still ongoing. Those particular foxes are somewhat more domesticated, but still utterly loud, kept in kennels, they still piss everywhere, etc. - and raccoons aren’t even halfway there.
For the non-native: that ‘S’ is pronounced ‘sh’ and ‘j’ is pronounced ‘y’. It almost sounds like shite.
…and they don’t fuck up our limited helium reserves en masse.
EDIT: they might fuck up other things, but it would be some serious waste, because there are much more important applications to our limited helium.

Commodore 64. I fell in love with Wizard of Wor before we got the family computer, and I felt pretty lucky for having a floppy drive. I also used to play a good bunch of Atari 2600 clone at a family member, if that counts.
You’re right about tetanus not being caused by rust. But it’s not caused by sheer punctures, it is a serious disease of the nervous system caused by a toxin-producing bacterium called Clostridium tetani. It can often be found in soil, but yes, if you leave a perfectly clean silver nail in that soil (which is infected by the bacterium), then yes, you can get infected.
Unseen technology? He’s a witch! Burn him!
“Rusted. Tetanus. Nice one. I overlooked it. You tried to capitalize. But I caught you.”
I just checked my emoji set. 13 emojis that you can use to express some kind of joy/cheerful mood that isn’t associated with food or feelings towards other beings. Including those (like 🥰) there are many more. I’m probably old man yelling at clouds here, but I’m sick of everyone using the ‘I AM CRYING WITH LAUGHTER’ emoji to simply say anything between ‘huh, yeah’ and ‘haha, that’s good’. Of course I don’t expect the emoji police to show up and arrest them for not producing tears, but this basically inflates (deflates?) the value of everything else. To me it feels like writing your whole text with all caps. If everything is highlighted, then nothing is highlighted.
Dicska@lemmy.worldto memes@lemmy.world•Its like seeing those high-tech pop machines for the first time3·13 days agoAnd 3D was the “AI” of those times. They had to bring it to EVERYTHING. Micro Machines (a top view toy car racer)? We’ll make it 3D, buy a card. Frogger? Yupp, Frogger 3D. They even tried to force 3D on poor Worms in 2003. I still prefer Worms World Party/Armageddon.
The first thing that comes to my mind is cancer screening. I had to look it up because I can’t always trust my memory, and I thought there was some AI involved in the RNA sequencing research for the Covid vaccine, but I actually remembered wrong.
