My concern is the extensive data Reddit collects and stores, and I’m sure will hand it over to whichever government agency wants it, and probably already have. They even keep track of what we upvote and downvote, including comments.

I feel less exposed here, I don’t know if that’s true, but it feels that way.

When people say, “I don’t use drugs”, almost never do they include alcohol in that. Alcohol, which is a drug, is always referred to separately, in large part because it’s a beverage. Most people, if asked, will agree that alcohol is a drug, but it’s not really categorized as one in their mind on a day-to-day basis. No one has a glass of wine at lunch and thinks, “I’m doing drugs now.” But, if alcohol as a liquid simply didn’t exist, but exactly the same effect could be had in pill form, I don’t think people would be taking a pill with their dinner, and washing it down with water.

It’s such a relief to not need to go to a job I stopped liking many years ago, to work with people, half of whom I did not get along with. My job was a job, I did it for money to put food on the table, and keep a roof over my head. I liked it very much for about 10 years, then for the next ten years… not so much. The tasks never “defined” me. I traded my most precious thing, my time, for money–and never nearly enough.

I’m happy to be done with that, and have been for over five years now. I don’t miss it at all.

Sounds like a cheap way to actually run a one person business. I know that this has been a thing forever–renting a single office in an office building that provides a front desk with a greeter, and secretarial services as part of the deal, but I suspect this option is even cheaper.

Same. Between work and home, I’ve had ~30 Seagate drives fail after less than a year. I stopped buying them for personal use many years ago, but work still insists, because they’re cheaper. I have 1TB WD Black drives that are over ten years old and still running. My newest WD Black drive is a 6TB, and I’ve had it for seven years. I dunno if WD Black is still good, but that’s the first one I’ll try if I need a new drive.

Texas releasing these things in public is horrifying. Tesla is last in this field, and refuses to add LIDAR, which is obviously what is needed.
