CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does anyone use a phone without a protective case?English12·4 days agoI don’t use them. Or screen protectors . I take good care of my devices, and my phone gets its own pocket always, so no scratches. I’ve only broken 1 phone in my life and it was only the back glass on an iPhone 4, which slipped off my motorcycle seat because that fucking phone was frictionless.

CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s an unspoken rule that absolutely everyone should know, but most people clearly don’t?English2·5 days agoIf he’s putting it up on the curb he’s doing the best for his situation and to me that’s fine. The damage comes from people leaving them just laying around and then the wind picks up. I have been around the block a few times it’s true but in my life I’ve saved at least 3 people’s cars from getting dented by carts I saw flying through the parking lot because of wind.
Does he ask for help? Even if it’s not a normal thing at that store, a nice conversation with a store manager can go a long way in my experience. Maybe it’s because I live in a neighborhood with a significant amount of older folks (at least that’s what it looks like at the grocery store!) but I bet any grocery will do that if you ask.

CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s an unspoken rule that absolutely everyone should know, but most people clearly don’t?English21·5 days agoThe carts go back in the corral so they don’t damage other people’s cars, not for convenience. I’m sorry your friend is hurt but my property shouldn’t be damaged because of that. And nobody’s going to judge him if he leaves it next the handicapped parking space he was in. Anyway, all the grocery stores by me will literally send someone to push the cart and put your groceries in the car for you if you’re unable. The cashiers will even straight up ask if they think you need help.

CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the term 'blockbuster' came from a time when blocks of ice in front of a fan were used to cool movie audiences. A large audience required more cooling thus "busting" the block of ice.English1·6 days agoIt is. I dunno what this ice nonsense is.
edit: The actual origin of the word is referring to very large bombs in WWII, which clearly took place long after we were using blocks of ice to cool public spaces. But the modern usage in terms of movies does in fact come from the days when mega-hit movies started having lines around the block.

That is awesome. I wish men got this kind of support when they are showing distress in public.
edit: I should clarify, not the ‘giving phone number’ part, just some support. In my experience men who look like they are suffering in any way are just actively avoided.
I was just gonna go with “Who gives a shit?” but you put it better.
